Mental Health Stigma

Read Aloud

The 'Mental Health Stigma' art piece was an interactive space where participants could write down responses to three questions. The responses would be anonymous and typed on a typewriter, to keep the participants anonymous and for each submission to match the aesthetic. The message behind this piece of work was to show everyone that people are going through mental health challenges caused by negative experiences in life.

Once the participants would write their responses, they would be put into a white box where the creator would nail them to the wall with the other cards. When creating the work, I knew the public wouldn't participate if there wasn't already cards on the wall as they didn't want to be the first or for others to know it was them. The exhibition was based in the Llwyn-Y-Bryn Gower College Swansea theatre, where it was exhibited for one night.
